Overall not bad3
this product was alright, especially given the price. the only issue i had with it was the handle. the "two handed" handle was awkward, and could not be used with both hands wielding the blade with any comfort. it has a handle that matches the contours of one's grip creating a fixed grip that doesn't yield to the way one holds a two handed blade

Not Really Sure What it is.2
Well if your like me and own an expensive katana, and want nothing more than to go out into the woods and cut everything down, but dont want to ruin your katana, then you'd be looking for something like this. Now I found that machetes are the ultimate blades for going into the woods and going bananas. So I wanted to order something that best resembled a katana, but was also a machete so it wouldnt break. I read somewhere that you dont want a machete too short, and you dont want it too long.

This is one of those best examples of why you dont want a machete too long. When you first pull out the blade, it looks really neat, but if you extend it out with your arm, the blade itself wobbles down. Now longer machete blades do wobble like that, because they are just stamped out of metal sheets really. The problem with a wobbly blade that is the length of a katana blade, is that when you swing it, the blade will wobble, thus it wont cut properly. I found that it works pretty good at straight overhead-to-down swings, but when you swing it from an angle, it will curve, and do nothing more than "scrape" a tree, not cut it. Another problem with this was the pre fixed handle. The first reviewer I read mentioned that as well, but I figured well it cant really be that bad can it? Well it is. I mean its not so horribly bad that you cant swing it, but if your used to swinging a katana, then your going to mess up your wrists. I would hack away at trees, and the fixed grip would cause me to hurt my wrist.

Thats what leaves me to ultimately ask, "what exactly is it supposed to be?" I mean its not a crap item at all, it holds up really strong, but its like I cant swing it properly due to the fixed blade, and when I do get a nice swing in, it doesnt really cut it properly either. Honestly, I think if anything, its more of a show-off type of blade, because it comes with a neat sheath that you can strap onto your back, so at first you feel like you got a really neat blade, but it doesn't do anything. I will probably go out and try to work on my swings some more, but I get the feeling this will be one of those items that just hangs there on the wall, and I might bring it out to show off or something, but ultimately, I wouldn't ever seriously use this thing, its about as dangerous as a McDonald's plastic sword really.

My recommendations for improvement would be 1.) fix the handles by not leaving them fixed. 2.) I know its a machete, but either make the blade shorter, or use something other than stainless steel (which absolutely SUCKS for blades) and 3.) dont be made in China, which you will see printed on the blade. I mean I was really excited to get this, but it was mostly a disappointment. Though I give it two stars because its not a piece of crap, its well built and it hasn't loosened up on me or anything, so if you can find some use for this, then yeah its a good bargain, but honestly I really cant find any practical use for this other than just display.

ps. I found that Cold Steel's two handed kukri is the ultimate weapon to head into the woods with if thats what you want to do. It swings like a katana, and I am in love with that weapon, i'd recommend it if your a katana owner who wants to practice on a similar weapon while keeping your katanas safe.
